Chisholm fundraiser – Throwback thursday

This year the Chisholm fundraiser was Throwback Thursday. We all got to dress up in a 80s, 70s, 60s or 50s theme. At recess we had cupcake decorating. Also at lunch we had a disco up in the Hinemoa and after the the fun dancing we all got zooper doopers to cool ourselves down. We all had a very fun day and we are thankful for Ashley, Jamie and Ms McN for organising this year’s Chishlom fundraiser!

Art: Our Birds

This year in Art we have all enjoyed having a new art teacher, Mrs T. So far we have already done so many artworks for example our name artworks where we wrote our names multiple times on a big piece of paper and painted in between each letter.  Our Sydney Harbour paintings, where we painted our favourite part of Sydney Harbour. We also created an Aztec sun artwork which Isabella and Ursula wrote a blog post on.

Now we are doing a artwork where we drew a bird with shapes of triangles, circles and squares.  Then we connected those shapes into a bird! After that we added details like feathers, leaves and trees so it looked realistic. Soon we will get to paint in the birds and backgrounds. The whole point of this bird artwork is connected to our UOI.  We are drawing them it as if we are in 1888 and we just got here and we want to show the people back in England the flora and fauna of this new exciting land.

This year we have all loved art and we have all been working really hard on our artworks. We can’t wait until we get to start our new art project and to learn more about art and the artworks we are doing!

FIT Incursion

This year we have started F.I.T better known as Friday Inquiry Teams. We personally have loved it and we have already conducted lots of fun experiments with the year 3 students. For example we used tin cans to mimic a penguin huddle and we used skateboards to learn more about friction. On Friday the 2nd of June we had a visitor. The visitor was scientist, an engineer called Mrs B. She was very nice and taught us a lot, she showed us all the forces eg. Air/wind, water, friction and some interesting stuff about magnets.For the first experiment we used a straw to blow objects across the table and we had to record which ones were the fastest and which one was the slowest. This experiment showed the force of air.

Another experiment we did involved magnets and a car. In this experiment we used the magnets to move the car and this demonstrated the force of magnitude. Altogether year 3 and year 4 really enjoyed this amazing opportunity. We are really  thankful for her coming and for Mrs M Mrs T Miss C and Mrs M for organising this.

Netball clinic and trials

OFF CAMPUS PE NETBALL

On Thursday Year 4 went on a bus to west Pymble for off campus PE for Netball. Where Miss Brian coached us some netball skills, so after a few warm ups including Jogging, Sprinting, High knees and side stepping we split into two groups. One group had a netball clinic and the other group had netball try outs. We played a few games with in our group and then it was time to go back on the bus to school it was a great day.

Free writing paragraphs

Today in English we have been exploring descriptive paragraphs. We took a look at a picture and had to describe what the house in the photo looked like, to show us what kind of words to us were told to manly use nouns, verbs, adjectives and proper nouns. I have this to take advantage and used words like oasis and enchanted. I have also called the character in the photo Tiff because it means Manifestation of God because the picture clearly shows that the house/mansion was well built also because that God was very mystical.

The paragraphs were meant to show us how the picture was different. The picture was welcoming and it felt warm inside, inviting the reason we made it descriptive so we could make it that the person could fell like there in the picture. Also the person teaching us this was Miss C and I really like Miss C as a teacher so this made it extra fun.

The Most Magical Mansion
I ran and I ran, slowly getting tired and in till I reached a mystic mansion. The towering trees suddenly stopped and something Hadn’t seen in a while, light shined like a new time of life; magically flowing through the sun was finding its way to the bottom of the forest. I walked into the luscious green fresh grass as if it was as well looked after by a human him or herself. The warm breeze flows through my fingers, I could not believe that the tall towering trees which seemed like a 5 story house had come to an end.

The Magical Mystical Mansion
One day a young lady wondered through a beautiful forest and she was very very observant on what was in the forest. The young lady’s name was Lucy. Lucy spotted a huge mansion in that lovely forest. The mansion smelt like the smell of rich chocolate. As Lucy felt quite happy that she she found a Magical Mystical Mansion.

As the pretty little girl stumbled to find herself standing between a small gap of the towering trees she always was amazed when she came to her grandma’s house. The flowers always sang to the house while the light danced around her garden. It was always calling to her, she could smell the freshly baked cookies from the kitchen, her excitement always overwhelmed her every time. The house always made her feel small, the luscious grass flowed against her feet she felt calm to know she was at her grandma’s forest. The hidden house was her favourite place to go, she heard her grandma start to call her name she knew it was time to go in.

One day a little girl named Rose with strawberry blond hair was playing in the forest. She was not allowed to deep into it but she disobeyed. She got lost so she decided to head back. But she couldn’t. For some reason in front of her she heard a loud noise. Suddenly gigantic trees shot up from the ground in front of her! She was terrified! She turned around and to her amazement she saw the biggest most beautiful house she ever saw! There where bright red roofs and lovely green hedges at every window! Some off the window where lit! She was relieved! “Maybe they will let me stay the night.” Rose said to herself. She walked up to the door and knocked.

“Crack!” the leaves under Emily’s feet squealed as she cautiously walked along the dusty path, that looked like it hadn’t been walked on for centuries. She shrieked as a mouse suddenly started scampering along beside her. Emily pushed back the leaves that towered out from the tree in front of her. She gasped in shock of what she saw. There, right in front of her eyes was the most magical, enchanting mansion  anyone would ever see!! Emily tried to continue walking, but her legs were frozen to the ground in shock. She slowly crept across the soft, mossy forest floor, still gaping in shock. As she walked along, for what she saw was beyond impossible, were FLOWERS…. GLOWING!!!!

In the moonlight it was hard not to notice the large glow of the incredible sight. Emily wrote down the exact appearance of the flowers. She listed in her notebook she decided to bring along in case something like this happened,

  • Long
  • Glowing
  • Pink
  • NO, orange!
  • Purple
  • Rainbow!!

She gasped in shock at what she wrote it changed COLOUR!!

Mystical Mansion
Maddison was running though the roses in the fields she was playing infected with her friend Charlotte and Jessica and  Charlotte was in. Maddison ran into the forest, she stopped in awe, there was a mystical house the house was rather large but the house looked abandoned. The trees were towering over her it made her feel small, but the flowers at the bottom made her feel brave. She walked over to the house cautiously, it was colourful and gorgeous. She knocked on the door a young woman came to the door she said, Hello! My name is Alison would you like to come into my house for a slice of cake? OK said Maddison, as long as you don’t eat me. Of course I will not eat you promise! said Alison. Maddison came in the chocolate cake was breathtaking but Maddison had to go home it was almost dark. Bye Alison I will come again. OK. Maddison walked away.

Next time I will fatten you up and eat you!! Mwwwww Haaaaaaa Haaaaaa Ha.

THE VERY BIG SECRET
The poor and sad orphan girl ran away from her miserable orphanage and went through the super terrifying forest and when she was about to give up and go back to the bad orphanage, she discovered a beautiful, colourful and ginormous house which looked like a castle!

Peer Support

In term 2, the year 6 leaders have been helping other girls. Girls in k-6 come together and enhance their learning and friendship skills in peer support.

Creativity is one of the most important highlights of peer support. We complete many fun activities that link to this topic. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to communicate with our peers.

One of the things we created was a hover-ball puffer which was an exciting and enjoyable project each of us made.

Peer Support was a pleasure to SOAR as creative Rosie girls!

Today in peer support we created a scientific push using force, we did this with air. These are the steps our groups did. First we decorated a plane oval shape of paper. Second cut to the middle of the oval. Third swirl the paper into a hat shape. Fourth sticky tape the the hat shape. Fifth get a straw and sticky tape it to the hat. Sixth scrunch up some tin foil. Last put the ball in the hat and blow. It should go up and out of the circle.

Cyclone fundraiser

On Thursday the Junior School had a fundraiser for cyclone Debbie. As you might of heard, cyclone Debbie damaged Queensland and New Zealand, and lots of families lost everything. Such as their houses, clothes and money. So the social action reps decided to raise money for all the families that lost their homes.They made this money by selling cyclone ice blocks to the Junior school. Altogether they raised a total of $300 which will go straight to the people that need it.

Novel Study Groups

This term we have started novel study groups! So instead of just reading the book we are discovering the book and researching it to find out what the characters and convicts really went through! The books that year 4 are reading are Surviving Sydney Cove, Meet Grace And a Penny to Remember. So far I have really loved Novel Study Groups and the book I am reading. I am reading Surviving Sydney Cove. It is about a young girl named Elizabeth Harvey (she was a real convict) who was sent to Sydney when her parents died but her brother was too young to be sent so he’s still in England.  This book is basically her diary which she will soon send to her brother! Year 4 are very grateful for all the mothers who are taking out part of their busy days to come and help us with our reading! We also want to say thank you to all teachers who helped organise all the novel study groups!

Friday Inquiry Science

Last Friday in our FIT inquiry time all of year 3 and 4 took part in a series of skateboard experiments, so that we could learn more about forces. Firstly, we talked about why things with wheels move better on flat grounds.. Did you know, it’s because gravity pushes things down not up, so the wheels dig into uneven ground. If gravity pushed things up, we would be in space! We then had a race when one girl pulled one side of a rope and the other held the other side of the rope while riding on the skateboard.

Then another girl pushed  someone back and then it happened all over again until every girl had a turn at pulling or pushing and a turn on a skateboard. After that and just for fun we had a game of tug of war!

On the last round we switched teams.In the end, it was really good for some people and bad for others because some girls won and some girls lost. 

We all learned more about the forces of pushing and pulling and gravity.

Seussical the musical

 

This term and last term we have been practising a dance during school, for the musical Seussical. The song is called “Monkey Around”.We have worked hard on the dance with Miss Poppy guiding us through it. Other classes in grades Kindergarten to Year 6 have different dances, some people do “Horten hears hears a who” and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”. We can’t wait to share our musical with our families and friends. We are sure they will be amazed by our dancing and our costumes.
